Fri 7/5 @ 5-9PM
The first Friday of each month is Walk All Over Waterloo when you can check out the galleries and small businesses in the Waterloo Arts District. Grab some food at Citizen Pie Pizza or Doink’s smash burger establishment, then peek into whatever galleries happen to be open (not as many as usual — summer break for many). Waterloo Arts currently features recent Cleveland Institute of Art grad Alison Alsup’s Ohio: Love for the Heart of It All, based on her biking-and hiking travels around the state, and Arron Foster’s Haints & Specters, a reaction to Ohio’s postindustrial landscape, using printmaking, photography and installation.
Also open: William Busta Project’s where Lori Kella’s Vignettes is still on view, featuring her latest variation on photo-based images on nature that are driven by her exploration of how we treat our environment. It’s open from 5-8pm.
One of the attractions, if the weather is nice, is free music on the Tower Stage at the corner of East 156th and Waterloo, presented by Cleveland Rocks: Past Present Future. This month Shake (pronounced Shaky) Ground, a group of area reggae veterans (most used to be in First Light) offers their sultry grooves, along with Tribe of Eli, featuring Elijah Gilmore, with their Afrobeat-infused jazz, from 7-9:30pm.
