06.24.24 Roe Reversed Rally

Mon 6/24

On Monday June 24, the second anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision, which overturned Roe v. Wade, a group of activists — mostly women but also some supportive men — gathered at Cleveland City Hall for a rally they dubbed Roe Reversed. Speakers, including state representative Juanita Brent, state senator Nickie Antonio and county council member Meredith Turner, talked about the impact of the decision, but none more powerfully than Brittany Watts, the Warren woman who was charged with a felony for abuse of a corpse after she miscarried in her bathroom. The charge was dismissed by a grand jury, but Watts has become a rallying point for how anti-abortion laws can capture women, especially Black women, who did nothing wrong, and Watts (pictured below in pink jacket) has become a strong and eloquent advocate for reproductive choice.
