Ohio Shakespeare Festival Kicks Off Season with “Much Ado About Nothing”

Thu 7/4 @ 6PM

It’s summer so that means it’s time once again for Shakespeare outdoors. That’s long been the key programming element for the Ohio Shakespeare Festival, although it now does a full winter indoor season. But in the summer its home is the lovely grounds of Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens, where it opens its season this week with the comedy Much Ado About Nothing, yes, only July 4.

It gets heavier with its second play of the summer, Othello. But now through July 21 (Thursdays-Sundays), you can enjoy the antics of the large cast of nobles and clowns — the typical folk who people a Shakespeare comedy — as they pursue their loves through a variety of setbacks and misunderstandings. Does it end with a wedding celebration? Take a guess!

The gates open at 6pm for picnicking. The Greenshow, a pre-show entertainment that introduces the main event, starts at 7:30, followed by the play at 8.
