Mon 7/29 @ 7-10:30PM
The seven-piece New Orleans jazz ensemble Sunny Side will be playing a concert at the BOP STOP Sunday July 28, showcasing the type of accessible, streetwise New Orleans swing jazz that features vocal harmonies, playful horns, infectious rhythms, echoes of Louis Armstrong, Fats Waller and Duke Ellington, and even a dancer.
But if this music makes you unable to sit still — as it does many people — head over to the Darl Center for the Arts in Slavic Villager where the band will play for a Monday night swing dance hosted by the Land Lindy Hop. (You’ll also get a glimpse at owner Darl Schaaff’s amazing personal art collection which fills the building.)
As with most public swing dances, the evening starts at 7pm with a beginner dance lesson so everyone’s up to speed. Then the live music starts at 7:30 and everyone can hit the dance floor to show off their moves. It’s an all-ages event and you don’t have to bring a partner — in this type of event, dancers switch partners all night long giving you a chance to meet some fun new people.
It’s just $20 at the door, cash, Vemno, Paypal or Zelle.
