If you’re heading over to Walk All over Waterloo this week, prepare to see some new shows and some outdoor music on the Tower Stage at East 156th and Waterloo, assuming the weather cooperates (it didn’t last month and the show moved into the Beachland Ballroom but there’s a band booked there this week).
Stroll over to Deep Dive Art Projects, located in a house off Waterloo on East 156th, to check out a show of new work by Antwoine Washington called Work in Progress. Washington has become well known in the area for the nonprofit he co-founded, the Museum of Creative Human Art, as well as for his figurative painting. In May 2024 he began a residency at Deep Dive, working with Deep Dive founder Bellamy Printz and independent curator/CWRU PhD candidate Ben Levy to explore ways of translating his painting practice into printmaking, which he’d never done before. It will be open from 5-8pm for Walk All Over Waterloo and will be on view through September 28.
Also opening this month is Jason Milburn’s Dual Civilizations at KINK Contemporary. In his most recent exhibition, Dual Civilizations. Milburn, who has BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art and an MFA from Kent State University, works in drawing, painting and printmaking to look at how people use religion, myths and self-help programs and ideas to get through challenging times. He does so by placing biblical characters into unfamiliar situations, using indelible ink.
Once you’ve checked out the art, come check out the bands from 7-9:30pm. Popular veteran band hubb’s Groove plays that combo of soul, R&B and jazz, commonly referred to as “smooth jazz, while drummer Anthony Taddeo, who leads Alla Boara, as well as several other projects, and sax player Chris Coles, are two of the rising generation of jazz stars in Northeast Ohio.
