Sometimes Cleveland can feel almost like you’re in Ireland, with all the Irish bars and dancing schools, the huge St. Patrick’s Day Parade, and don’t forget all the local courts filled with judges named Gallagher (7), O’Donnell, O’Malley, Shaughnessy, Kelley and Clancy. So for more than four decades, the big Irish Festival at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds in Berea has been the place to be for a summer weekend, whether you’re Irish or not.
For three days, you and your family can enjoy more Celtic bands, Irish folksingers and pipe bands (such as the Cleveland Firefighters Memorial Pipes and Drums and the West Side Irish American Club Pipe and Drum) from around the world and right here in Northeast Ohio, see kids from a half dozen Irish dancing schools show off their fleet foot skills, enjoy massive amounts of food and drink (not ALL of it Irish!), watch or participate in sports such as rugby, cornhole, cricket and hurling, bring your instrument and join a jam session, and shop in the vendor market.
There’s plenty to entertain your little ones in the special Kids Area too, including shows, crafts, a petting zoo and of COURSE facepainting — can’t have a festival without it. There’s a mass at 11:30am for those who are still Catholic.
Warning: The festival is cashless for admission tickets, food, drinks and festival merch. Merch vendors set up their own forms of payment.
