Wed 7/10-Sun 7/14
If you’re eagerly counting the days until the annual Feast in Little Italy, there’s something you can do this week to scratch that itch. The annual Our Lady of Mount Carmel Italian Festival in Gordon Square, now in its 98th year, offers a big dose of the same Italian food favorites and ethnic entertainment that attracts tens of thousands to the Feast in August.
For five days you can partake of full Italian dinners or treats such as sausage sandwiches, cavatelli with meatballs, pizza and lemon ice, along with beer and wine, while enjoying music by DJs and live bands including on Saturday the popular Sammy DeLeon Band, whose Latin Jazz has Puerto Rican, not Italian roots, but who’s complaining when the beats are this infectious? Bingo, raffle prizes and the procession of saints on Sunday round out the festivities which are free and open to all.
