Convegence-Continuum Presents Dark Comedy About Nerdy Teens & Abusive Teacher

Fri 8/2-Sat 8/24 @ 8PM

Convergence-continuum’s next production is described as a “dark comedy.” That’s no surprise considering that this is the main specialty of the tiny, adventurous Tremont-based ensemble.

Stephen Karam’s 2007play Speech and Debate revolves around three outsiders — a nerd, an out gay teen and an awkward misfit girl with theatrical aspirations — and in a Salem, Oregon high school. They don’t know each other when the play begins, and a sex scandal explodes in their town. But they soon come together to try to expose the truth about a drama teacher who is propositioning his male students, as they create a time-traveling version of Arthur Miller’s play The Crucible about the Salem witch hunts.

The play runs Thursday through Saturday @ 8pm at convergence-continuum’s home, the Liminis. Get tickets and information at convergence-continuum.org.
