Brazilian Artist Debuts New Public Work in Wendy Park with Party in the Park

Wed 7/24 @ 5:30-7:30PM

Brazilian artist Alex Senna has created black-and-white murals in England, Korean, Russia, Italy, Denmark and many other countries, using a comics and graffiti-inspired style to spread a message of love, peace and community.

Recently, Cleveland’s Land Studio hired him to produce a piece of public art for Wendy Park on Cleveland’s near west side along the lake. No, it’s not yet another mural, so hold the groaning. He’s designed a pair of ten-foot sculptures of two children called Small Wonders, said to depict “the essence of childhood emotions and wonder.” Since his bio says, “His artworks depict human relationships loaded with emotional baggage and intertwined with satire,” one wonders if they’ll reflect the challenges of being a child in a city ranked one of the worst places in the country to raise a family. The sculptures were produced by Toledo’s Graphite Design + Build.

You can meet the artist and learn about his intentions when he hosts a picnic in the park at Wendy Park to introduce the works to the public. There’ll be music, games, bubble blowing and refreshments. Bring a picnic and enjoy the setting. The event is free and open to all, and takes place weather permitting. Register here.
