Thu 6/6 & Fri 6/7 @ 7PM
Jazz lovers in northeast Ohio are in a fortunate position. With so many music programs and conservatories in the area with jazz programs, we’re in a position to hear regular performances from ultra-talented musicians, from students to young musicians launching their careers, and midcareer virtuosos and revered veterans who are on the faculty of these schools.
One such veteran is jazz/world music percussionist/drummer Jamey Haddad who fell in love with jazz and global rhythms, then left Ohio to attend Boston’s revered Berklee School of music where he later became a professor. Finally he moved to New York where he built a flourishing career, playing on hundreds of albums and became a mainstay in Paul Simon’s band. Finally, in the early 2000s. he moved home to join the faculty of Oberlin Conservatory.
He’s a frequent performer on the stage of the BOP STOP, where he’ll be doing a two-night residency this week with a small ensemble that includes Chris Coles on saxophone, John Shannon on guitar and Ian Ashby on bass.
