Tommy Amato Rock Relief Continues to Help Local Musicians Facing Health Challenges

Sun 6/9 @ 2-7PM

Drummer Tommy Amato was the driving force behind countless Cleveland bands in the ’70s, before he moved out to the west coast in the ’80s. But when he was in L.A. going through his second lymphoma diagnosis in 2003, friends back home had his back, hosting Tommy Amato Rock Relief in March 2004 at the Agora. Since then Amato, who has returned to Cleveland, hosts a benefit of the same name every year, with the proceeds of each going to someone in the music community facing health challenges.

The 20th annual event takes place this Sunday June 9 at Slim & Chubby’s in Strongsville. Emceed by Ray Carr, it will feature the Billy Sullivan Trio at 2pm, Bruce Springsteen tribute Jersey at 3, Abba Tribute Super Troupers at 4, and  Neil Diamond Tribute The Diamond Project at 5pm. Recipient of this year’s proceeds is Rachel Wohlever-Lewis.
