SPACES’ Summer Artists in Residence Show Their Stuff

Fri 6/14 @ 6-9PM

SPACES Gallery debuts two new shows this week, by its pair of summer artists in residence, both from outside the U.S. Jessica Campbell, who hails from British Columbia, works with textiles, drawing and comics, often using unconventional materials, and influenced by sci-fi, her evangelical upbringing and “art world politics,” an interesting collision of influences. “From cartoony depictions to the use of unorthodox material, Campbell’s work often wields humor as a device for managing trauma,” says her bio. She’s the author of three graphic novels.

London native Chloe Munkenbeck, who has an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, “uses architectural forms as both metaphor and medium to unpack the power structures supported by the built environment.” She also was the exhibition designer for Everlasting Plastics at the U.S. Pavilion in the 2023 Venice Architecture Biennale, which was co-curated by former SPACES executive director, Tizziana Baldenebro,m who is now the organizations Curator of Special Exhibitions.

The shows will be on view through July 26.
