The subway level of the Detroit/Superior Bridge has been closed to transportation since the early 50s. In recent years, it hosted a pair of Ingenuity festivals (2010 and 2011) and a lighting installation by the British team Squidsoup in 2019 as part of a celebration of the 50-year anniversary of the infamous Cuyahoga River Fire that added fuel to the U.S. Environmental movement. It’s also been opened by the Department of Public Works on certain weekends for pedestrian self-guided tours.

This weekend, the bridge will once again host some art. Local artist Chuck Karnak, known from his long-running business All Go Signs, is creating a light, sound and performance installation he’s dubbed Go Dream. Again, it’s a self-guided walking tour but as in 2019 there’ll be more to see in addition to the old trolley tracks and the panoramic views of downtown Cleveland.

It’ll be open Friday from 4-11pm and Saturday from noon-11pm. There are two entrances: off West Superior on the east end and 2433 Superior Viaduct on the west end.

There’s no charge. Wear comfortable, sturdy shoes — stilettos not appropriate! It is stroller- and wheelchair- friendly, Get more info here.
