Western Reserve Chorale Offers Program of American Music

Sun 6/2 @ 3:30PM

Founded in 1992, the Western Reserve Chorale offers a chance for singers of various backgrounds to sing a variety of choral works, from the Renaissance to newly commissioned pieces and to present free concerts to the community.

Its next concert, taking place at the Church of the Savior in Cleveland Heights, is called From Sea to Shining Sea.         Don’t expect the typical “America the Beautiful” concert with a batch of overdone patriotic tunes. The concert wilk feature both secular and sacred tubes, including folk songs, spirituals, jazz and musical settings of American poetry. You WILL hear “America the Beautiful,” the tune my mother through should replace The Star Spangled Banner because it’d easier to sing and less warlike, but you’ll also hear songs by Cole Porter, Stephen Foster, and contemporary composers setting old texts, including a Walt Whitman poem and a text from a midwestern circuit preacher, to new music.

The concert is free, although donations will be most welcome. The concert will be livestreamed as well. Go here for information.
