When Debbie and Pete Gulyas purchased the building that houses their business Blue Arrow Records 15 years ago, they were discouraged by the number of poorly cared for, reproducing stray cats running around, getting hit by cars and being a nuisance. So they started the Waterloo Alley Cat Project to address the situation. They’ve had hundreds of cats spayed and neutered, cutting down the kitten population, and they care for cats at several colonies and a rescue house, providing food, vet care and love — lots of love. And, as record collectors know, a bunch of the cats live full-time in the store and will help you choose your purchases.
This weekend, they’ll be holding their 15th annual Waterloo Alley Cat Fundraiser, taking place at Waterloo Arts. Admission is free, but there’ll be plenty of raffle baskets you’ll want to bid on and. $1500 grand prize raffle drawing. There’ll likely be WACP merch you can buy as well, as well as drinks and vegan food available for purchase. All money raised will go to care for the cats to make sure they’re health, fed and don’t multiply. Best of all, you get to spend the evening hanging out with other cat lovers.
