Veteran northeast Ohio guitarist/composer/music educator Carl Baldassarre has been a longtime participant in the area music scene, performing with such progressive rock-style ensembles as Syzygy and Abraxas. But since the pandemic ended, he’s re-entered it with a bang, re-introducing his own prog rock-style tunes and his distinctive Led Zeppelin interpretations to area fans. And a year ago, he released an album of his own titled Grand Boulevard, sharing his strong songwriting skills and musicianship in multiple formats and greatly increasing his live performance schedule, again performing in multiple formats with different groups of musicians.
Now he’s bringing a project he’s dubbed the Baldassarre Rock Orchestra to the Heights Theatre (formerly the Centrum) in Coventry Village. The nine-piece ensemble will be enhanced with lights and other visuals in what he describes as a “1970s aesthetic.” The music will include symphonic-style arrangements of songs by Led Zeppelin, the Beatles and Deep Purple and rock arrangements of pieces by Beethoven and Shostakovich, as well as Baldassarre’s own music including a preview of tunes from his upcoming album Deep Grooves.
Free tickets to upcoming shows are awarded to patrons who get in the spirit by dressing up in their favorite 70s or steampunk clothing!!
