Habesha

After years of doing pop-up events at farmers and maker markets around Northeast Ohio, the three former refugees behind Habesha, who have worked at restaurants in African countries such as Sudan and Kenya, opened their brick-and-mortal establishment in West Park’s Kamms Corners, an area more known for Irish bars, at the end of 2020. But as Clevelanders are becoming increasingly open to cuisines from far-flung countries, their traditional Ethiopian and Eritrean cuisine filled a gap. The long-running and much-loved Empress Taytu on St. Clair closed two years later, leaving only Zoma in Cleveland Heights serving these flavors. Although many dishes feature chicken or beef, this type of food is heavy on vegetarian dishes as well. A coffee ceremony typically concludes the meal.
