Geneva-on-the-Lake is the sort of old-fashioned, affordable resort town that brings back childhood memories for many, back before a family vacation didn’t involve spending thousands to go to a theme park and standing in line for an hour or more for each ride.
“The Strip” aka Lake Road, is lined with casual eateries and walk-up stands offering the types of foods (pizza, ice cream, hot dogs, lemonade, donuts) that you probably only want to eat on vacation, and kids will be begging parents for repeat visits to the well-stocked candy store. There are plenty of places to shop for low-cost souvenirs, t-shirts and sundresses, and there’s plenty to do for all levels of adventurousness: ziplining, miniature golf, fishing, jet skiing, sunset lake cruises, arcade games, and more. And for those without kids, there are plenty of bars offering late-night drinks and entertainment. Despite the town’s legendary friendliness to bikers, it’s still got a family-friendly vibe.
It all kicks off this weekend, when most of the businesses open for the season. It starts with the annual parade, so bring your folding chair and get there early to find a choice spot along the Strip. Then enjoy the summer!
