Northeast Ohio musician Alex Bevan has been one of the area music scene’s greatest treasures for more than 55 years. The folksinger/songwriter/guitarist released his debut album No Truth to Sell in 1971 and has produced a constant stream of music since, most of it released on his own label. What’s especially impressive about the 74-year-old Bevan is that he’s still constantly playing and writing, and his vocals and guitar playing have gotten better over the years, as he blends new songs with old favorites.

One of his favorite topics is his love of nature, a subject he addressed on his 1991 album Watersongs, released on his Fiddler’s Wynde label, part of the work he has done to raise awareness about conservation and environmental issues.

That album will be the centerpiece of a special one-night-only concert he’s doing with the Akron Symphony Orchestra at E.J. Thomas Hall, and if there’s one area singer/songwriter whose musical skills can keep up with an orchestra, it’s Alex. Orchestral arrangements for the songs were created by conductor Eric Benjamin. In addition, students from Old Trail School and Urban Community School will join Alex and ASO onstage to sing the title song from his 1996 album All the Rivers Run (Songs from the Cuyahoga Valley National Recreation Area).
