Walkabout Tremont is Bloomin’ in April

Fri 4/12 @ 5-10PM

The monthly Walkabout Tremont event is stretching, casting off its winter garments and starting to come to life for the spring with the April theme “It’s Bloomin’.”

There’s always something intriguing going on at the neighborhood’s longest-running gallery Doubting Thomas, and this month is no exception. Art of the Trade 2: Artists Collecting Artists is a follow-up to a show organized last fall by local photographer Laura D’Alessandro. It features artists she has personally collected and a portrait of each artist using her distinctive lenticular process (images that change as you view them from different angles) which she’ll give to the artists as a gift.

The artists included in this iteration of the show are Robert Banks, Christine Bonner, Milenko Budimir, Sabina Cha, Benjamin Colon-Nieves, Hadley K. Conner, Laura D’Alessandro, Dexter Davis, Ben Hauser, Will Kirchner, Angela Oster, Dante Rodriguez, Douglas Max Utter, Noel Ward, Grace Wen (image above), and others to be named. The opening reception takes place from 6-9pm but receptions at this gallery tend to run late.

Opening reception will be on April 12, 6-9pm at the doubting Thomas Gallery (856 Jefferson Ave, Cleveland) during the Tremont ArtWalk.

At Kaiser Gallery at the opposite end of the same block, you can check out the ongoing show, Thin Line: Love/Hate Relationship with AI, featuring work by Patsy Coffey Kline, Jason Toth and Gina Washington, with an artist talk at 7pm. The show, curated by Kline, “explores the vicious cycle of our tendency to love hating on the things we love to hate, and to call it love.” The show’s statement says, “While acknowledging the distinct purpose of Generative AI art, there remains a recognition that it can never replace the innate abilities of a human artist. The exhibition, with its focus on the positive aspects of AI in the arts, sheds light on the playful and ominous ways in which this technology becomes a new frontier for creative expression.”

As usual the neighborhood’s plethora of eateries and drinkeries offer specials during Walkabout.
