It’s that time again. The temperatures are reliably in the 60s and even the 70s, and we’re all itching to get outdoors and have some fun. With the Cleveland Asian Festival kicking it off in just three weeks, the northeast Ohio festival season gets into full swing!
In the ten years since we started publishing our festivals guide a lot of things have changed — beloved events have disappeared, and new events have been added to the schedule and become just as beloved. And of course there are changes this year as well: the Avon Duct Tape Festival is officially history, and it appears the Mentor Headlands Beach Fest, the Canton Music Festival (formerly the Canton Blues Festival) and Wonderstruck may be as well (through the latter posted in mid-March that they “definitely plan to continue” and “may take place later than usual” though it’s getting late to be planning a major music festival with national acts.) Great Lakes Brewing’s Burning River Festival disappeared with the pandemic and despite a long-running message on their site that they’ll be back, that doesn’t seem to be in the works.
Edgewater Neighborfest has told us they’re taking the year off, while some late-in-the-season events such as FreshFest, Cleveland Public Theatre’s Dia de Muertos and most of the ethnic church festivals that fill the August and September calendar haven’t announced dates. Ohio City Inc has announced the return of the Ohio City Street Festival in September and has been recruiting volunteers but hasn’t publicly announced a date. But we’re really thrilled the Cleveland Vegan Society’s VegFest has returned after a five-year pandemic break!
As usual, we’re asking people out there (especially you church fest organizers!) to let us know if we missed anything. Email us at events@coolcleveland.com.
