Sat 4/20 @ 8AM
Record Store Day isn’t quite the grassroots event it was initially intended to be with major labels and big-name artists putting out “exclusive” merch that sets off competition among stores and shoppers. Some indie record stores — the original intended benefactors of this event — have opted out.
Others have turned it into an event of their own creation. One of those is Parma indie record store The Current Year. There it’s less about queueing up early in hopes that the store has snagged one of an allotment of a particular record (sure, they’ll have some of those, hopefully) than about hanging out and having fun with other music lovers.
Doors open at 8, but the Love Coffee Barista Bush will be there at 6am so you can start the day with a jolt of caffeine. Their neighbor Rudy’s Strudel will be manning the food bar, with their exclusive Pavement pierogi, made only for this special day. Why? Because the owners of The Current Year are big fans of legendary indie rockers Pavement, and two of its members — Bob Nastanovich and Rebecca Cole — will be joining them to celebrate.
The day will also feature all sorts of giveaways and gift certificates for area businesses and a used vinyl sale. And WIXY Internet radio will be live-broadcasting throughout the day.
