Lots of New Shows by Veteran Artists Open During Walk All Over Waterloo

Fri 4/5 @ 5-9PM

There’s a bunch of intriguing shows opening in the Waterloo Arts District, featuring work by veteran artists. Painter Jill Milenski will be sharing her Colors of Europe at Article, from 5-9pm. Come meet her and bask in her beautiful, richly colored pastels of scenes from her travels in Europe last summer.

At the Maria Neil Art Project, Byron Miller & Adam Sheetz’s show Mask 2020 strikes a very different mood. They two artists collaborated, with photographer Bryon Miller shooting models in masks designed by Sheetz to ask how we got through the COVID pandemic. There’s a twist to the show too: while artists turned to social media to share work and connect during the pandemic, the Maria Neil Art Project’s posts were mysterious shut down on Facebook for “violating community standards.” This from a platform that’s often told women that rape and death threats DON’T violate community standards. Go figure. Drop in and see what the fuss is about from 5-9pm.

Deep Dive Art Projects re-opens its viewing gallery after a winter hiatus with Daily Vanitas, works on paper by Laura Ruth Bidwell in her first show at this gallery. Using clippings from The New York Times which she collages and paints, she reflects on New York City’s iconic places and activities, using them to engage in humor and social criticism and reflect on life, death, art, history and culture through juxtaposition. Stop in between 5 and 8pm.

Other shows include MicroCosmic Orbit by Nicole Condon-Shih and Mary Johnson from 6-9pm with an artist talk at 7; Maddie McSweeney’s Moon Belly at King Contemporary from 5-9pm; featured artists Bunisha “Toni” Dahn at Framed Gallery; Matthew Kolodziej at Busta Projects from 5-8pm; and nature photography by Jen Beck and a “live sound bath” from 6-9pm at Pop Life.

Also between 6-8pm Wave Roxanne and Thicarus will be playing a free concert at the Cleveland Rocks show. And starts at 8pm MoKo BoVo plays at the Fillmore — also free.
