Want to see how county executive Chris Ronayne handles a bicycle? You’re in luck. On Celebrate Trails Day, the fourth Saturday in April, a group will be gathering for an informal 10-mile bike ride, beginning and ending at the Cleveland Metroparks Garfield Park Reservation’s Iron Springs Reserved Shelter — and Ronayne has promised to be part of the group, which will include local mayors, Cleveland Metroparks CEO Brian Zimmerman and other local “celebrities.”
Riders will get to roll past both finished and upcoming trail projects and roadway enhancements, which Zimmerman will undoubtedly point out with pride. And maybe you can have an informal chat with some of those locxal officials about making this region more bike-friendly. Both Bike Cleveland and Slow Roll Cleveland (whose season opens May 6 at Wade Oval) will be helping to navigate the ride. Helmets are encouraged and, says the published info, “all participants are required to bring a working bicycle.” Not sure what the alternative would be? it’s free and open to all.
