Jazz/Classical Crossover Sax Quartet Performs in Rocky River

Mon 4/8 @ 7:30PM

The Capitol Quartet isn’t the sort of chamber music ensemble that the Rocky River Chamber Music Society typically books. Instead, it features four skilled saxophone players – one each on soprano, alto, tenor and baritone sax – who offer programs comprising a wide variety of music: jazz, classical, jazz-classical crossover, new contemporary repertoire, pop standards and Christmas music. They perform as a stand-alone chamber ensemble and with orchestras in a variety of formats.

Not only do they take their music to venues around the country, but they’re incorporated as a nonprofit with a teaching mission, lecturing and performing for music educators and hosting masterclasses and educational forums at schools across the country.

When the perform for the RRCMS they’ll be presenting their Bridging the Gap: Jazz/Classical Crossover program, with music by Claude Debussy, Carter Pann, Evan Hause, Stacy Garrop, Jean-Baptiste Singelée, Phil Woods and Duke Ellington.

As always RRCMS programs are free, although they certainly welcome donations. And you can also watch the concert one their YouTube channel which will go live at 7:15 on the evening of the concert, 15 minutes prior to showtime.
