Jazz and Indian Classic Musicians Join Talents at the BOP STOP

Thu 5/2 @ 7PM

Infusion, taking place at the BOP STOP, is an evening of music that brings together some of the area’s best jazz musicians and some master musicians of Indian classical music to create an evening that fuses the two styles, taking advantage of musicians who are in town for the annual Cleveland Thyagaraja Festival of Indian music and dance.

It was put together by Cleveland jazz pianist/composer Leo Couch, who specializes in world music and ethnomusicology in addition to jazz. He’s performed in England, Germany and Slovenia, as well as major American jazz festivals and the Thyagaraja Festival and performed in theater, with poets, Latin jazz and salsa musicians and Indian classical musicians.

Musicians joining him include Cleveland painter/educator/jazz violinist Reed Simon and Akron-based table player Joe Culley whose background includes rock, jazz, Latin and a stint with blues legend Robert Lockwood Jr, as well as three distinguished Indian musicians: vocalist/composer K.N. Shashikirian, vocalist/instrumentalist Vidwan Chatravina Ganesh, and vocalist/percussionist Lalit Subramanium. All three are extremely well known and respected in the Indian classical music world.
