Fri 5/3 @ 6-10PM
This month, the Cleveland Museum of Art’s monthly MIX party pays tribute to the biggest worldwide pop music trend most people don’t even know about. No, not Taylor Swift — it’s K-Pop, those Korean boy groups and girl groups, often comprised of teenagers, cranked out by entertainment conglomerates who audition members, manufacture bands train them, and create their images — and their huge international hits. Think Backstreet Boys or One Direction on steroids.
But there’s more to Korean culture than teenage pop vocal groups. CMA has just opened a new special exhibition called Korean Couture: Generations of Revolution, and it’s spectacular. Hence the theme of May’s MIX party. You will be able to visit that exhibit and wallow in some spectacular, striking and unusual couture, then come upstairs and listen to DJ Big Sana spin K-Pop all evening. And K-Pop dance ensemble PinkSoda will be showing off some moves on the floor in the Ames Family Atrium at 7pm which Big Sana spins tracks for them,
As usual there’ll also be themed food and drink available for purchase. And if you’ve had your fill of Korea, you can also check out the museum’s other current special exhibition Africa and Byzantium. We do have to remind you that MIX is a 21 and over event, even if the vast majority of K-Pop fans are under 21.
