Once again, the City of Kent will be bursting with music, as 21 different venues hosts two dozen bands and solo artists for the Kent American Roots Music Festival, both well-known veterans and newcomers. It’s all about the genre roughly encompassed by the term “Americana”: folk, county, bluegrass, swing, jazz, old-time, rock and various combinations of those sounds. (There’s even a duo that performs “traditional European instrumental music” and another duo that specializes in Celtic music, which isn’t strictly “American” but whatever — it adds a little spice.)
With so many hosting venues you’ll get to hear full sets or even full evenings of music by each artist. Best of all, every venue is free, and with Kent being so compact, you can easily drop in at a bunch of different places over the course of the evening.
