New Shows Go on View at 78th Street Third Friday

From E11even2’s “Flourish”

Fri 3/15 @ 5-9PM

Several exciting new shows are opening at this month’s 78th Street Studios’ Third Friday.

At HEDGE Gallery, Rebecca Cross’s Mapping the Sensorial goes on view. Using music as a source of inspiration, Cross created what she called experimental “scores,” created by waves of manipulated, dyed and embroidered silk with crescendos and diminuendos that mimic music. She sews her fabric onto foamcore wooden surfaces which she has drawn and painted on. She has also created a large-scale silk and stone installation which will be used in a live dance performance. In addition, her husband, composer Randy Coleman’s, scores will be on view.

Downstairs at E11even2 gallery, Flourish: A Celebration of Urban and Elegant Botanical Poetry, curated by Alexandra Primisch, makes its debut. It’s described as a show that “celebrates the diverse and awe-inspiring beauty of botanical life and features a collection of art pieces, including 3D ceramics and 2D design works that captures both the timeless elegance of nature and the vibrancy and resilience of botanical life within the urban landscape.” Artists in the show include Primisch, Katy Clark, Karen Sacco, Claire Raack and Hannah Manocchio.

And be sure to stop in Gallery 202 on the second floor for Where Love Lives, where Jenniffer Omaitz’s brightly colored abstracts from her Geometric Gesture Series will be accompanied by Omaitz spinning her favorite Nu Wave tracks from 6:30-8:30pm. Omaitz was the most recent winner of the prestigious Paul and Norma Tikkanen Painting Prize in the abstract category.

As usual, there’ll be vendors in the event spaces, food and drink available and performers scattered throughout the building. Don’t miss the new artist shops on the east side of the RAMP level.

Third Friday is free and open to all, even your well-behaved dog.
