Fri 2/2
The highlight of February’s Walk All Over Waterloo was the opening of an extensive display of work by the Warrensville Heights artist group, The African American Quilt and Doll Guild, a new venue for this group whose work has previously been seen at events such as Station Hope. The gallery at Praxis Fiber Worship was packed with exquisite wall hangings and dolls on pedestals, reflecting both intensive labor and a sophisticated aesthetic sense, in works that ranged from abstract patterns to reflections on African-American culture and civil rights.
This month, Waterloo visitors could also have a last look at a show by rising Cleveland art star Davon Brantley at KINK Contemporary, Stephen Calhoun’s colorful geometric pieces at Maria Neil Art Project (which now has a gallery cat), and an ongoing show by Xia Gao called Settling/Unsettling: Daydream of Jiangnan at Waterloo Arts (on view through February 24) featuring mixed-media wall pieces and sculptural installations.
