You don’t have to wait until Paczki Day — the Polish version of Mardi Gras — to pick up your paczkis — pastries with sweet and savory fillings — at Rudy’s Strudel and Bakery in Parma. In fact, if you don’t like crowds and want to be sure to snag your favorites of their handmade 31 flavors, it’s best not to. You can order/buy them now.
But if you like a party, Rudy’s opens at 5am on Tuesday February 13, with Michael Stutz of neighboring The Current Year Records and Tapes spinning records, and Tom Mroczka and the music Box performing live starting at 8am. “The bakery will be open until the paczki runs out. Be warned, it happens quicker than you think!” they say.
If you didn’t get up early enough, you can always head over to Edwins Too at Shaker Square where a Paczki Day Party will be kicking off at 5pm. There’ll be polka music and all sorts of Polish food including pierogi, kielbasa, sauerkraut and of course paczkis, as well as Polish beers. Bring the kids; their tickets are cheap because the adult ticket includes two beers. Get tickets here.
