The Rock Hall continues its celebration of Black History Month with a panel discussion called “Black Music Now,”  moderated by Dr. Laina Dawes, looking a how Black musicians have navigated such musical spaces typically considered non-Black, such as rock, heavy metal, punk and alternative.” And it will feature a pair of local acts who work in those musical spaces — the hardcore band Uniity (which features two Black women) and Nox ala Obnox aka Lamont “Bim” Thomas, whose musical work grew out of the punk/post-punk scene.

Other current programming touching on Black music history includes screenings of the film Soul Train: The Hippest Trip in America in the Foster Theater; the exhibit Hip Hop at 50: Holla If Ya Hear Me; and new artifacts from artists such as Alice Keys, Elizabeth Cotton, Freddie King and Nile Rodgers, who, along with his producing partner the late Bernard Edwards, created the “band” Chic.
