Beck Center/Baldwin Wallace Musical Considers Fates of Teens Killed on Roller Coaster

Fri 2/9-Sun 2/25

The latest in a series of theater collaborations between Baldwin Wallace’s acclaimed music theatre program and Beck Center for the Arts is a relatively obscure 2008 musical called Ride the Cyclone, which has had numerous productions across the U.S. and Canada, mostly at smaller theaters, although it’s also been staged at big regional theaters, the McCarter Theatre in Princeton N.J. and the Arena Stage in Washington D.C. But it hasn’t been performed in New York.  And this performance at the Beck Center is its regional premiere.

It’s narrated by a mechanical fortune teller named Karnak, who challenges six teens who died in an accident on a malfunctioning roller coast called the Cyclone, to tell the story of their life. He holds out a tantalizing prize for the best tory; the chance to return to life.

Baldwin Wallace’s Victoria Bussert directs the production which, as usual, is double cast to give more students the chance to perform, with a Maverick cast and a Raptor cast. The productive runs Fridays and Saturdays @ 7:30pm and Sundays @ 2:30pm through Sunday February 25.
