NEWS: Wasmer Gallery Show Features Some of the Area’s Best Women Artists

“Every Year They Grow From Nothing” by Meryl Engler

Through Thu 1/25

There’re still a few weeks left to check out the New Masters 3: Women Artists of Northeast Ohio currently on view at the Florence O’Donnell Wasmer Gallery at Ursuline College.

The quality of the show can be judged by the competition. There were 450 entries submitted by 187 artists, with juror Hilary Gent of 78th Street Studios’ HEDGE Gallery, who represents some of this area’s best professional artists, choosing 47 pieces by 45 artists for the show.

The best in show prize went to Akron’s Meryl Engler for her five-layer reduction woodcut titled “Every Year They Grow From Nothing” (pictured). Other top winners were Kate Kisicki (first prize); Jenniffer Omaitz (second prize); and Leigh Brooklyn (third prize), along with honorable mentions Hadley Conner, Mary L. Alexander and Natalie Lanese.

The show runs through January 25. The gallery is open Tuesday through Thursday from noon-5pm.
