moCa Cleveland Opens New Shows with an Environmental Focus

Fri 2/2 @ 6-9PM

Stop by the Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland (moCa) to check out the three new exhibitions its debuting for its spring series of shows, all of which they say “explore the power of nature and human nature. From asserting our obligation to protect the Great Lakes to envisioning rebirth that comes after climate devastation to symbolizing our existential journeys, these exhibitions elevate our shared experiences to encourage connection and change.”

The shows include the U.S. debut of Manabu Ikeda’s Flowers from the Wreckage retrospective, with more than 50 works created over the last 25 years dealing with the grief surrounding environmental disasters. Huron, Ohio native Andrea Bowers’ Exist, Flourish, Evolve installation is described as “a new, multi-site, multimedia campaign that builds awareness and action around the dangers facing Lake Erie and all of the Great Lakes ecosystems.” And Scrd Grdn, an immersive painting installation, was created in partnership with guest artists from the Julia de Burgos Cultural Art Center by Dominican artist BlackBrain, aka Ariel Vergez, who studied industrial design at the Cleveland Institute of Art.

The shows open Friday February 2 and are on view through May 26. Admission is free.
