Marchant Manor Cheese owner Kandice Marchant was born in that quintessential cheese state, Wisconsin, but her path to making her own cheeses and opening a storefront was circuitous. She attended medical school at Case Western Reserve University and she and her husband both became researchers. During their travels she discovered the wide world of artisanal cheeses, and about ten years ago, she started to apply her research skills to cheesemaking.
She began selling the results at Ohio City Provisions and then in April 2021 she opened her own storefront in Cleveland Heights on the same block as the Cedar Lee Theater. Her specialty is bloomy rind and soft triple cream cheeses, made with goat and cow milk from a northeast Ohio Amish dairy. But you’ll find all types of cheeses, including from other Ohio craft cheesemakers and some from across the country, as well as go-with items such as crackers, jams, pickles, and cured ham, with a focus on artisanal local products. Marchant Manor also hosts special events such as cheese-making classes and cheese tastings.
