Sun 2/4 @ 2PM
World Wetlands Day, February 2, was founded in 2021 to draw attention to this vital piece of our ecosystem, which they tell us has been degrading since the 1700s, disappearing three times faster than forest. “Wetlands are critically important ecosystems that contribute to biodiversity, climate mitigation and adaptation, freshwater availability, world economies and more,” they say.
Wetlands such as the Mentor Marsh are host to a vibrant world of flora and fauna. Luckily they are part of the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, which has a mission to preserve and protect them. And on Sunday February 4, they’ll lead a nature hike at the marsh where their naturalists will share what’s there, why it matters and what we can do to make sure it lasts.
Meet at the Mentor Marsh Nature Center. The walk is moderate and family-friendly. Dress for the weather and wear sturdy, waterproof shoes. And bring your camera or binoculars!
