Cleveland-Based Brazilian Musician Moises Borges Plays in Ohio with All-Star Jazz Group

 Sun 1/7 @ 7PM

While guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Moises Borges was born in Bahia, Brazil, he’s lived in Cleveland for more than two decades. In that time he’s become familiar to local music lovers from his many appearances at local clubs, restaurants, festivals and other venues, sharing the distinctive jazz-rooted sounds of his native country: samba, bossa nova, bolero and more.

This past November, he released a new album called Baiano, the title a reference to someone born in Brazil’s Bahia state. It features 10 songs written and arranged by Borges and recorded in Cleveland, Mexico and Brazil, incorporating the diverse styles of Brazilian music that have influenced his own. You can expect to hear some of those songs when Borges performs what’s billed as a “birthday concert” (presumably his own) at Market Garden Brewery in Ohio City.

He’ll be accompanied by a stellar lineup of local jazz musicians including drummer Dylan Moffitt, bassist Gary Aprile, percussionist Liam Smith, sax player Mathew Horwich and trombonist (and artistic director of the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra) Paul Ferguson.
