Avant-Garde NYC Quartet and Cleveland Percussionist Play in AsiaTown

Wed 2/7 @ 8PM

The Cleveland Uncommon Sound Project is dedicated to bringing to town the sort of music you won’t hear elsewhere, and it’s announced a lineup of shows taking place at Convivium 33 in AsiaTown that fulfills its mission.

This week it’s hosting HYPERCUBE, a New York City quartet that expands the definition of chamber music, bridging acoustic and electric music as it performs cutting-edge pieces for saxophones (Erin Rogers), classical and electric guitars (Jay Sorce), piano and accordion (Andrea Lodge) and percussion (Chris Graham). They commission new works and work with composers to adapt their pieces for the ensemble’s instrumental lineup. HYPERCUBE has performed across the U.S. and in Mexico and Canada at new music festivals and concert series, and has done residencies at conservatories and colleges in Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Boston, Cincinnati and Oberlin, among others.

They’ll be joined on the bill by Cleveland’s Joe Tomino who has played everything from jazz to reggae, hip hop to punk to classical music which he studied at Cleveland State University, followed by a stint studying jazz performance and composition at the New England Conservatory. He moved to New York City and gained international touring experience performing with progressive trio birth, while recording and performing with a variety of artists including Lady Gaga, Mike Patton, Matisyahu, Blondie and Meshell Ndegeocollo. Returning to Cleveland, he joined one of its current most interesting bands, the percussion driven Latin-music-drenched Hello 3D.

Admission is a $15 donation but they say no one will be turned way if their pockets are empty. Get more information here.
