Fri 12/22 @ 8PM
Vanessa Rubin is one of Cleveland’s wealth of treasured jazz musicians. A versatile vocalist, she can sing jazz, blues, soul and pop, and she’s built a career and repertoire over several decades.
After heading to Columbus to attend The Ohio State University, she moved to New York to pursue a musical career. She’s done pretty well: She’s released eight albums, including her latest The Dream Is You, which features the music of fellow Cleveland native, mid-20th-century composer/arranger Tadd Dameron, and performed with jazz legends such as the Jazz Crusaders, Toots Thielemans, Grover Washington, Jr., Herbie Hancock and the Woody Herman Orchestra. She’s alsoknown for her skillful interpretations of Billie Holiday tunes, a major influence along with Freddie Cole, Carmen McRae, Nancy Wilson and even Motown.
So it’s bound to be an intimate, captivating evening when she performs “A Jazzy Christmas” with a trio at the BOP STOP in a program featuring standards and originals in all the styles she’s mastered. Get tickets here.
