The Modern Electric Celebrates a “North Coast Christmas” at the Grog Shop

The Modern Electric have become a staple of the local music scene since they won third place in the annual High School Rock Off in 2008 with their distinctive “cinematic rock” which makes them sound bigger than the quartet they are.

In 2011, they released an EP called North Coast Christmas, which spawned a holiday tradition: their annual North Coast Christmas show. They’ve released re-mastered versions and new arrangements since then: you can still snag an EP with multiple versions or the single at their website (or even a Northcoast Christmas “ugly sweater” sweatshirt which is actually cute and very reasonably priced!)

Although they’re no longer eager teens making a first splash, the band, which includes Garrett Komyati on vocals, piano and guitar, Matthew Childers on bass and drums, Holden Laurence (who has a productive solo career on the side) on guitar, and Michael O’Brien on drums, has stayed engaged and innovative. During the pandemic they started a nonprofit called Cleveland Verses, bringing area musician together or various local charities.

They’ll be joined for this year’s show, the first since prior to the pandemic, taking place at the Grog Shop, by Papi and the Smears, and Dive Bombs. Get tickets here.
