Peruvian Cultural Association Holds Gala Fundraiser for its Garden in Rockefeller Park

Sat 12/9 @ 6-11PM

The Cleveland Cultural Gardens along MLK Drive have been getting a lot of new entries in recent years, from more and more diverse cultures, in addition to the European ones that were the early mainstays. There are many new plots staked out and assigned that are in the very early stages, many nothing more than a sign so far.

One of those is the Peruvian Cultural Garden, sponsored by the Peruvian Cultural Association of Northeast Ohio (PERUCAN-OH). While they are one of the ones that has little more than a sign in an inviting green space right now, they say, “Our goal is to create a place that celebrates our history, creativity, and contributions through the centuries — from the pre-Inca civilizations to modern times. A place where we can feature architecture reminiscent of the Nazca lines and Machu Picchu, among others.  A place where we can provide a platform for events that showcase the works of world-renowned Peruvian craftsmen, artists, writers, and musicians.”

Working toward that goal, the group is presenting a dinner and gala fundraiser it calls “Colors of Peru,” taking place at Tremont Cityside Ballroom (behind Annunciation Church.) In addition to food and a cash bar, there’ll be a Pervuian dance performance and music by the Latin American dance band Luka y su Ropa Vieja. There’ll also be a keynote speaker, Roland Medrano, a Columbus-based entrepreneur and chairman of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Columbus.
