Jazz Musician Theron Brown Talks About Akron’s Jazz History

Thu 12/14 @ noon

Akron-based jazz pianist Theron Brown is great example of how musical talent and entrepreneurialism can combine to create a career.

The Zanesville native’s musical training encompasses both jazz and classic music: he earned degrees at the University of Akron. He performs extensively with his trio, which features two of northeast Ohio’s other rising young jazz musicians, drummer Zaire Darden and bassist Jordan McBride, both Oberlin alums. And he’s a dedicated educator who’s now a music professor at his old alma mater and artist coordinator for Akron’s I Promise School through Curated Storefront. He’s also the co-founder/director of Akron’s Rubber City Jazz & Blues Festival. He’s even appeared in the Miles Davis bio film Miles Ahead as a young Herbie Hancock.

Is that enough? Nope, not quite! As an Akron jazz historian, he’ll be talking at an Akron Roundtable program about the city’s own jazz history when he shares “Stories Untold: Howard Street Parade.” The event will also includes lunch, networking and a Q&A. It takes place at Quaker Station at the University of Akron. Get tickets here.
