Ohio City comedy club Imposters Theater was founded this past March to host shows, workshops and classes in improv, sketch and “alternative” comedy. And for its first holiday season it’s presenting a special nod to that season with a holiday double feature: A Very Silly Christmas Carol + The Improvised Hallmark Holiday Movie, which it will perform three times across three weekends.
The evening will present spoofs of two very different holiday entertainment traditions. A Very Silly Christmas Carol won’t be anything like Great Lakes Theater’s long-running rendition of the hoary Charles Dickens tale. The audience will be part of the show as it suggests what the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future show do and helps guide the future of Scrooge and Tiny Tim.
Then it’s time to turn those corny Hallmark Christmas movies upside down — the ones where the young woman who moved to The Big City for her high-powered career returns to her small town and rediscovers its charms with the help of that boy she had a crush on in high school who now … is a cashier at the Dollar General and has a “Don’t blame me — I voted for Trump” sticker on his beat-up truck. Watch them turn THIS sucker on its head!
