The Cleveland Jazz Orchestra is composed of some of the area’s best jazz musicians, from seasoned veterans to up-and-coming young guns. That gives them a wide range of talent and music to draw on, especially when they welcome guest performers as they so often do.
For their holiday show “Christmas Around the World,” they found a stunningly talented young woman right in our backyard: 18-year-old Ava Preston who has been performing in area nightclubs and other venues since before she was in high school. Both a singer and a songwriter of striking range, she’s been winning awards from the venerable jazz publication Downbeat for years. So she can easily hold her own with these guys.
They’ll be at the Maltz Performing Arts Center on Friday and at the Lorain Palace Theatre on Sunday.
