Beachland Hosts Release Party for Book About Cleveland’s 70s Underground Music Scene

Sun 12/17 @ 7PM

Cleveland musician/music scene journalist & activist Peter Laughner died in 1977 at the age of 24. But he packed a lot of living into a short time and has become a legend in underground music scenes, where his legacy lives on — and on and on.

And somehow, Cleveland-based Stone Church Press, founded last year by writer/artists Aaron Lange and Jake Kelly, has managed to get a 448-page book out of his life and the scenes he was part of. Ain’t It Fun: Peter Laughner & Proto-Punk in the Secret City was written/illustrated by Lange in his graphic novel debut.

If you want to meet Aaron and Jake and hear the whole story about what inspired them to put out this book, come on down to the Beachland Tavern for a book release party and talk with special guests Jim Ellis, who published local underground music zine CLE Magazine, and Harvey Gold of Akron’s distinctive underground band from the ’70s, Tin Huey. And Kelly will be DJing before and after the talk. The promo for the event doesn’t say but we’re pretty sure they’ll have books there for purchase and signing because not to would be pretty dumb, right? There’s no cover charge so buy a book.
