Amateur Musicians Bring Tuba Christmas to Akron

Sat 12/23 @ noon

There are no virtuoso renditions of classical carols at a Tuba Christmas concert: the popular event, performed by volunteer musicians, is strictly for seasonal fun.

Now in its 50th year, Tuba Christmas was first performed at New York City’s Rockefeller Plaza skating rink in 1974. Now it’s performed all over the world, and anyone who owns a tuba or euphonium (a tuba relative) and has some idea how to play it is welcome to sign up to be part of it. Participants are urged to wear bright colors and decorate their instruments.

Audience members are encouraged to sing along with their favorite carols an popular holiday songs, and bring even bells to jingle during “Jingle Bells.”

A Cleveland version took place a few weeks ago and now it’s bringing its merry-merry to Akron’s E.J Thomas Hall. Get info here and here.
