Akron Symphony Rolls Out Vocal Fire Power for its Holiday Pops Concert

Fri 12/8 @ 7:30PM

Everybody’s doing it at this time of year! By that we mean that orchestras jettison their “serious” repertoire, replace it with popular holiday tunes and traditional carols and welcome “a very special guest all the way from the North Pole” that even your four-year-old can figure out who it is.

And concerts such as the Cleveland Orchestra’s holiday series that starts next week and the Akron Symphony’s Holiday Pops concert, which takes place this weekend at the University of Akron’s E.J Thomas Hall, may be the perfect place to introduce that four-year-old to orchestral music. There’ll be singing and spectacle in bite-sized pieces led by ASO music director Christopher Wilkins and guest conductor Donna Valentine, and the orchestra will be joined by a mighty complement of singers including tenor Daniel Doty, the Akron Symphony Chorus, members of the Gospel Meets Symphony choir an the Firestone CLC Akron School for the Arts Symphonic Choir.
