For the Second Year, Karamu Brings “Black Nativity” to Playhouse Square

Fri 12/1-Sat 12/16

Once again, Karamu House is partnering with Playhouse Square to bring its iconic production of Black Nativity downtown to the Allen Theatre complex.

Originally created for Karamu by legendary black poet/playwright Langston Hughes who lived in Cleveland as a teenager and worked with Karamu, the play casts the Christmas story in black vernacular using gospel music and spirituals, African traditions and dance to tell the story in a way meaningful to Black Christians. Karamu President/CEO Tony F. Sias and Errin Weaver direct the show with musical direction by Dr. David M. Thomas.

The show will run Thursday-Saturday @ 7:30pm, with Saturday matinees at 2pm and Sunday matinees @ 3pm. Go here for ticket information.
