Cyclists Ride Out to Help the Hungry at Cranksgiving

Sat 11/18 @ 11AM-2PM

Bike Cleveland’s annual Cranksgiving event offers cycling enthusiasts the opportunity to take a ride around town, either solo or with friends, while doing something positive to benefit community members in need.

How does it work? Riders gather at a central location to pick up a map of area grocery stores and then set out to visit one or more of them to purchase items from a list. Then they return to the staging location to add the food to a pile to be donated to needy families and seniors. Riders average 15 miles and generally spend about $15 although you’re welcome to spend more if you’re feeling generous, as well as bring non-perishable items from home. You can also make a cash or food donation at Joy Machines Bike Shop. There’s no fee to take part.

Cyclists of all ages and experience levels are welcome. All purchases must be carried by bike, with some sort of bag, basket or wagon attachment — no cheating by using a car!

This year the gathering location is Bottlehouse Brewery and Meadery in Cleveland Heights, where cyclists can unwind with a drink after their ride.

Registration is at 11am. There will be coffee and donuts! There’s a brief program at 1130 before riders head out. Return between 1:30 and 1:45,with the closing program and group photo at 2pm. There will be a second location in Lakewood to be announced. Check back at the Bike Cleveland website for info.
